Jura is a questionnaire card game made to question the following: “Why is it no longer cool to like dinosaurs when you are an adult?”.

During a friends party in 2024 I got to the topic of dinosaurs with a couple strangers. I’ve been always a huge dinosaur enthousiast since I was a kid. I told my my favorite dinosaur and was met with a couple of staring eyes. “You still like dinosaurs at this age?” one asked. “Well yes I do” I replied. Then another person who first remained silent chimed in and also started talking about how fascinating dinosaurs are. It was an interesting exchange and it surprised me that people felt that things like dinosaurs are exclusively meant for children.

Two weeks after the party we got a new assignment for the class Design Research with the topic being Love. I immediately knew that I would use my love for dinosaurs and the question “Why is it no longer cool to like dinosaurs when you are growing up?” as my topic.

Trough my research and surveys I found out that the reason people think dinosaurs are meant for kids is because they associate all the toys, games and merchandise with children. Personally I can see their point, because a lot is indeed aimed
at children.

So how am I going to make dinosaurs appeal to the more adult audience? I decided to make a more adult oriented questionnaire game to educate people about the wondrous world of dinosaurs. The game features cards that players can collect by answering question correctly and then place in their archaeology site to collect points. Cards with random effects to disrupt opponents or get small benefits.

In the end a prototype card game came to be featuring artworks that I scanned from my old books and gave a gritty serious makeover to fit the adult aesthetic. They’re printed on thick silver paper for a premium look.
